For those of you who want to call Taxi in Korea using your smartphone, one of the best ways to do so is using KakaoTaxi app. Now, if you are not logged into Google Play Store using your Korean number (e.g. using your U.S. Google account), Play Store will not allow you to install this app. This is a big problem for people like myself who visit Korea often yet I don’t want to make another Google account just to use this app.
Fortunately, you can download the KakaoTaxi APK file and install it manually yourself. Now, you will also need a Korean phone number to actually verify your phone and start using KakaoTaxi app. Also, KakaoTaxi app DOES NOT support English, it is in Korean language so if you don’t know how to read Korean, you may have trouble. But the app itself is pretty easy to figure out, if you have a Korean friend, let him translate the menus for you and you should still be able to use it without trouble.
Since Korean government has banned Uber (regular Uber X, Uber Black still works), your best alternative is the KakaoTaxi APK, which allows you to call taxi from anywhere in South Korea. Also, KakaoTaxi offers “Black” service similar to Uber Black where you can request luxury car service. Sometimes hailing taxi at night can become very hairy in Korea, especially if you are traveling long ways as some taxi drivers will refuse to take you or will want to negotiate a higher price. By using KakaoTaxi, you will be able to grab a taxi, no need to hassle with the taxi driver about where you are going or the price.
Overall, KakaoTaxi APK is definitely a must install, especially if you plan to stay in Korea for more than a week. It may be a lifesaver for those times you can’t hail a taxi or simply need a car where your GPS coordinates are.
If you have used KakaoTaxi in Korea, do share your thoughts in the comment box below, thanks!
