For those of you with any Samsung Galaxy smartphone(such as Galaxy Note 8, S8+, S8, S7, S7 Edge, S6, S6 Edge, etc…etc…), you can now get Google HDR camera working on your phone with BOTH front and back portrait mode working.
This Google HDR+ Pixel 2 Camera works on the following models:
- Galaxy Note 8 Exynos/Snapdragon
- Galaxy S8/S8 Plus Exynos/Snapdragon
- Galaxy S7/S7 Edge Exynos/Snapdragon
- Galaxy S6/S6 Edge/S6 Edge Plus
- Galaxy Note 5
- Galaxy S5 Exynos/Snapdragon
UPDATE: For Galaxy S9/S9+, please see updated Google HDR+ Camera.(No portrait mode but HDR+ works)
The only requirement is that you are running latest Android 7.0/7.1.1/7.1.2 Nougat or Android 8.0/8.1 Oreo. For older devices that Samsung have not updated to Nougat and beyond(such as Note 5), you can install a custom Nougat ROM to get this feature working on your phone. Also works for both Exynos/Snapdragon models (setup is a little bit different for each).
Simply download the APK file and install:
Instructions on get it working correctly:
- Set “Config camera HDR+” to “Nexus 6 HDR+ Auto” in Settings->Advanced.
- For Snapdragon devces, also turn off “Correct bayer pattern on S7 Exynos front cam” and “Correct white level on S7 Exynos front cam”.

Q: This camera does NOT work on my Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9 Plus!
A: Unfortunately, we were not able to test for Galaxy S9 or S9 Plus at the time of posting but there is a solution if you have the Exynos model of Galaxy S9 or S9 Plus (no portrait yet but HDR+ works), please see this Galaxy S9 HDR+ camera APK.
Q: Will this work on non-Samsung devices?
A: Probably not as it was not working on any of our non-Samsung devices. However, we will update with a working portrait mode for many other Android smartphones soon. Check back often and we should have a solution for all Android smartphones soon.
